PCOS...the gift that keeps on giving...

Grrr. Well yesterday I had my sono to check on my uterine lining, ovulation, etc
I was on cycle day 9. This was a weird cycle because even after taking my Provera for 10 days no Aunt Flo and I tested and tested and nothing and then I had my sono to see what was up for 7-6-09 but sure enough day before...she shows. So they reschedule me for yesterday. I have been doing the Progesterone since February trying to regulate my cycle without the use of the BCP as I stopped that in November. Anyhow, even after having had a cycle my insides look like a traffic jam. I have about 9-10 cysts/follicles on each ovary, none of which are significant, all measuring at a 10 or less. That sucks! Essentially the Provera brings on a cycle but does not guarantee ovulation and boosts hormones...I have breakouts now all the time! I was hoping I would have an easier journey this time.
I have to schedule follow up with my Dr for the sono results and see what to do. She may prescribe the Femara and follow up with me for a bit but if not have to go back to the fertility specialist. Same practice but different doctors handle that. More expensive too. Since we sort of know my ****tail I was hoping she could at least prescribe some of the meds versus having to go to him and pay way more because my insurance does not cover fertility treatments.
If not then will probably schedule to see him in a few months.
Previously, when TTC Emad I had the Hysterosalpingogram and conceived the next month which happens a lot. Quite possible it cleared out the bad "eggs" to make room for the good ones we made with meds...lol  But...that was $750 and do not know if they do that as a treatment for PCOS or strictly to diagnose issues with the tubes and once found to be clear that is it. Any ideas on that or other treatments to clear the way so to speak? OF course will talk with the doctor when I see her but I like to be prepared and know options too! Thanks!

PCOS SUCKS!!!!! Have you looked into bio-identical hormones? The prescription name for it is prometrium. Unlike Provera, which is a progestin(or synhtetic hormone), Prometrium is actual progesterone. It has been shown to regulate your hormones within three months(sometimes longer). I did the provera thing for years(only way AF ever came), but after an episode of unrelated non-stop bleeding my doc wanted me on it all the time------Well, that made me a complete witch. So, after reading a book by Dr. John Lee(There's a bunch of them, but he talks a lot about bio-identical hormones in all of them), I asked her to switch me to Prometrium.

Talk to your doctor about it. It may be a better bet for you....don't know for sure, but I willing to try anything generally safe thing.

Good advice Angie! It does help and I will make sure to mention it at my follow up. It is on the 28th.

I'm sorry...PCOS sucks.  I remember getting the diagnosis and not understanding really what impact it would have on my life.  I was able to get the hysterosalpigogram done with insurance to pay based on just knowing if there was a problem with my tubes (even diagnosising fertility issues).  As long as they weren't billed as an actual fertility treatment it paid.  I can't speak to the other things as meds I didn't go through that.  I would think if they undstand that you have had success with one method, they would at least try that first...helping you save time and money. Hoping it all resolves quickly-...oh and I can't believe how big (and cute) Emad is now a days!
Edit: I did fight with them for one medication...progesterone to supplement my pregnancy.  It was denied, and I got new insurance...it was also denied with them.  They list it as a "life style" medication.  Poor phone rep. got an ear full about who picks a life style with 2 1/2 needs in their @ss for 12 weeks, and how they'd rahter pay for sugerical intervents to deal with a fetal loss.  Ugh..I hate medical insurances one size fits all situations.

Yeah, insurance is stupid. I had to do the suppositories and luckliy it was not too bad, $1 a pop or $60 a month, but like you said, hello, is it not a lifestyle choice, it is an unborn baby! Stupid!

I hate having PCOS.  In my case, the HSG was only available as a diagnostic tool, not as a treatment, but worth asking your dr about just the same.  Clomid helped me some, but it took a lot of cycles before I had real results (which is contrary to the standard 3-cycle indications).  I seem to recall that you had poor results with Clomid though?  Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice.  In any case, I'm thinking of you and hoping that you get some answers and a more definitive course of action from your RE.

You are correct, Clomid has no effect, useful that is, for me. So I used Femara. Thanks for the info!

I don't know a thing about PCOS other than what I've learned here reading postings from those of you with it...and I'm in awe of all you ladies go through just to get the families you deserve.

If your insurance's wording is anything like mine, they won't pay for fertility treatments, but will pay for diagnosis....so talk to your dr and ask them if they'd ask for another HSP to determine if the tubes are still open...and hope that works.  Obviously you have to figure out the meds issue first.  I'd tell you to come visit me...the HSP here was only about $50 when I had it...and you get to wear cute little crotchless pants rather than the hospital gown that gaps open in the back.  You just have to make sure you're wearing a long shirt...because otherwise when they send you up the hall to the bathroom to clean up...all your business will be hanging out of the crotchless pants!

Also...don't know if it's allowed...but if you're going to India...if you know the meds you used...and have the OK of your dr to use them again...check in India to see how much they are there.  I'd almost guarantee they have them...India's a big medical toursist hot spot...especially for infertility issues...and I bet you could pick them up there for much less than you'd get them in the States...probably so cheap you wouldn't even care if the insurance paid for them.  IE...here in Indonesia, one round of clomid is only about $7.  Just a suggestion...and if you're flying all that distance anyways...it may be worth looking into.
